Performs structured research-related work assignments requiring knowledgeand experience in plant pathology, breeding, and molecular genetics. Buildsunit-specific knowledge of genetic mapping, marker-assisted back crossing andstakeholders. Solves a range of straightforward problems. Analyze possiblesolutions using standard procedures.

Job duties:

Assists in designing research projects; independently plans and performscomplex, multi-step experimental analyses; records all experimental protocolsand data; organizes and interprets experimental results. Runs molecular markerassays, extracts DNA, and maintains both living plants and seed collections.Prepares and runs samples on various instruments and equipment.

Performs experiments and analyze experimental samples, includingallele-calling of genotyping data. Generates sample/control analysis reports.Responsible for generating, recording, and analyzing data.

Responsibilities

The visiting researcher wi
ll perform research on brain-computerinterfaces, device design, and in vitro neural construct electrophysiology. Thevisiting researcher will also be designing and performing experiments;analyzing data; interpreting results; writing reports; presenting data atscientific meetings. The visiting researcher will help perform calibration andreal-time decoding investigations with patients enrolled in pilotbrain-computer interface trials and will be responsible for analyzing resultingdata and keeping multiple protected backup copies of data.                                                                       

Qualifications

Doctoral degree required. Specific training in electrical engineeringincluding signal processing, digital system architecture, tissue culture,electrophysiology, computer programming. 5 years of graduate training inbiomedical neuroscience and electrical engineering; expertise in brain-computerinterfaces.

Job Description

Northwestern University’s Department of Physics & Astronomy invitesapplications for a full-time, benefits eligible, multi-year, non-tenureeligible faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Instruction, beginningSeptember 1, 2019.

The successful applicant will demonstrate excellence in teaching introductoryphysics courses, supervising and mentoring teaching assistants, and overseeingclassroom and laboratory instruction for introductory courses. A standardteaching assignment is six one-quarter courses per academic year with possiblereductions for administrative and other duties. Candidates would have theopportunity to engage in education-based research, seek funding for pedagogicalinnovation, and partner with faculty who do so.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Physics, Physics Education, or arelated field, which must be conferred by September 1, 2019. The idealcandidate will have demonstrated excellence, breadth, and innovation inteaching. Preference will be given to candidates who have an understanding ofresearch in the teaching and learning of physics and experience working withdiverse student populations.
