Job Description

Research will focus on developing next-generation targeted anti-angiogenictherapies for various vascular diseases. The laboratory recently developed theonly technology of ligandomics with broad applicability to discoverhigh-quality drug targets for novel therapies of different diseases, includingbut not limited to angiogenic diseases. Using this powerful technology, wediscovered highly promising drug targets and are developing targetedanti-angiogenic therapies for various ocular vascular diseases and cancer(PMID: 28330905). This project will investigate drug candidates in variousstages. These include characterization of humanized antibodies to treatangiogenic diseases in animal models, analysis of novel drug targets in vitroand in vivo, and ligandomics screening to discover additional unknown drugtargets. The research activities include ligandomics analysis, molecular andcellular studies, protein analyses, antibody characterizations, receptoridentification and characterization, therapies to treat vascular leakage andpathological neovascularization in animal models, preclinical toxicology andpharmacokinetics studies. Responsibilities

We are searching for twohighly-motivated postdoctoral associates with strong research experience inmolecular/cellular biology and animal research for biological drug discoveryand development. These positions are part of NIH-funded projects to developnovel drug therapies at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the University of MiamiSchool of Medicine.

Requirements

Candidates must have aPh.D. and/or MD, have productive scientific contributions through publicationof high impact peer-reviewed papers, and show strong commitment toscience.  Applicants with advanced skillsin molecular biology, cell biology, protein biochemistry, immunohistochemistryand animal research are highly desired. Experience in bioinformatics analysis is a plus. Excellent verbal andwritten communication skills are required. This position represents anexcellent opportunity for career development in drug discovery and developmentwith opportunities to interact with our industrial partners.

Postdoctoral Position

Job Description

A Postdoctoral Fellow position is immediately available in the laboratoryof Dr. Sumant Puri, Assistant Professor and co-director of the Oral MicrobiomeResearch Laboratory at Temple University.

The research focus of this NIH-funded study is to understand the role ofhost iron levels in modulating Candida albicans pathogenesis and host’s innateand mucosal immune response against oral and gut commensal pathogens.

Duties/Responsibilities: The fellow will be responsible for experimentsdesigned and carried out under the supervision of the PI; and participate indata analysis and manuscript preparation, along with routine lab maintenance.

Required experience: Experience in mice handling related to animal modelsof infection is a must, along with basic and advanced microbiology techniques,including MIC/MBC/time-kill assays, fungal/bacterial cultures, and biofilmassays; as well as experience with real time PCR, Western blotting,immunofluorescence techniques, flow cytometry, and extensive microscopy,including confocal. Experience in working with the yeast C. albicans is highlypreferred and knowledge of transcriptomics will be considered an asset.

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in life science with 1-3 years of postdoctoralexperience with practical knowledge of the techniques listed above.
